Coal is deposited into trains via these loading silos which straddle the railway. The coal silo is linked to the Portbury coal stockyard to the south by a conveyor system which runs under the river Avon. Trains are pulled under the silo at a speed of 1km per hour, and can be loaded, fully automatically, in 36 minutes.
